I’ve been chasing stories for as long as I can remember.
In school I was Editor in Chief of our annual publication and won the Colors Award for Creative Writing. Later I published a poetry collection, Am I Beautiful, Yet?
Then, I studied Strategy and Economics at Emory and went into branding in Atlanta and Miami, at Burger King, Tim Hortons and Ben & Jerry’s. That is where I learned storytelling- to know who you’re talking to, pick one thing to say, and say it so people remember it.
Post graduation, in New York I interviewed 200+ C-suite executives and turned those conversations into market research reports. The people at the top could tell you who they were in two minutes. A lot of getting there, I realised, is personal branding.
College advising is the same work: helping a student work out their story, the way a brand or a CEO already has. It is part art and part science, part strategy and part intuition.
An Advanced Certification in College Advising from Teachers College, Columbia University and 145+ students later with admits to the US, UK, Singapore and India, I’ve learned to find what makes a student interesting, then help them say it well.
AI is the newest part of that. I’m curious about what it can do, and clear about what it shouldn’t do, which is write the essay. At WriteWise it asks the questions and does the research. The student does the writing.
My job is to help you find the story only you can tell, and make sure colleges see why it matters.
