Who we are

WriteWise is run by The WriteWise Studio LLP, 37 Shakespeare Sarani, S. B. Tower, 4th Floor, Kolkata 700 017, India. On this page, “we” and “us” mean The WriteWise Studio LLP. Questions about your data go to writewise.vk@gmail.com or +91 98302 36600.

What we collect when you sign up

When you press “Start writing” (or any start button) and fill in the form, we save:

• your name and email address;
• what you are applying for (undergraduate, or master's / MBA) and your class year;
• the college you picked, if you picked one;
• your activities, if you send them on the next step;
• which button you pressed, and which version of the website you were on;
• the code in the link you came from, if a friend shared their link with you, and your own sharing code;
• when you signed up, and how many times you have sent the form.

We don’t use your location. Our login, hosting and payment providers record IP addresses and device details to keep accounts and payments secure.

What we collect when you use our tools or pay

When you use Brainstorm with Mara or College Research, we also collect your CV and activities, your conversation with Mara (as text, and as audio if you choose voice), and the reports we make for you.

When you pay, we collect the payer’s name, email and phone number, the amount, and the payment ID. Razorpay, our payment provider, handles your card, UPI or bank details. We never see or store them.

What you tell Mara

Students often share personal things when they talk about their lives, such as family, health or loss. We use this only to find your essay ideas. Only the founders can see it, and we never use it in marketing.

Why we use it

• To send you your research when it is ready.
• To reply when you write to us or book a call.
• To count the friends who sign up with your link, for the referral offer.
• To see which pages lead people to sign up, so we can improve the website.

We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers. We don't send marketing emails unless you agree to them.

Cookies and tracking

We use only the cookies needed for you to log in, pay and stay secure. We don’t use advertising trackers. If that changes, we will update this page first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

Who else handles your data

We use a few companies to run WriteWise. They handle your data only to provide their service to us.

• Vercel hosts the website.
• Supabase stores sign-ups, on servers in the United States.
• Google provides our email, so emails you send us are stored by Google.
• Cal.com handles bookings when you book a call, and WhatsApp handles messages you send us there. Their own privacy policies apply when you use them.
• Razorpay processes payments.
• Anthropic provides the AI that prepares your research and essay ideas from what you share.
• [Sarvam] provides the voice for conversations with Mara.
• Google provides sign-in, if you choose to sign in with Google.

None of these providers may use your data to train their AI models.

These providers may keep short technical logs, such as IP addresses, to keep their services secure. Within WriteWise, only the founders and the people who build and maintain the service can see sign-ups.

Where your data is stored

Sign-ups are stored in the United States. If you are in India, this means your data is transferred outside India.

How long we keep it

We keep your account until you ask us to delete it, or for [24] months after we last heard from you, whichever comes first. Audio recordings of Mara conversations are deleted [30] days after your report is sent. Payment records are kept for as long as Indian tax law requires.

Students under 18

WriteWise is for students applying to college and their parents. It is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you are under 18, please sign up with a parent or guardian's knowledge. Before a student under 18 uploads a CV, talks to Mara or pays, we email a parent or guardian a link to confirm they agree. Payments must be made by a parent or guardian. Student data and consent explains how.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

• show you the data we hold about you;
• correct it or bring it up to date;
• delete it;
• stop using it, by withdrawing your consent;
• let someone you name act on your behalf if you cannot.

Email writewise.vk@gmail.com from the address you signed up with. A parent or guardian can ask for a student under 18. We confirm we have your request within 48 hours and act on it within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our reply, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

How we protect it

The website and the database use encrypted connections. The website can only add a sign-up: it cannot read, change or delete the list. Only the WriteWise accounts on the founders' list can read sign-ups, and they have to sign in to do so. If a security problem affects your data, we will tell you, and report it to the Data Protection Board of India and to CERT-In as the law requires.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use data you have already given us, we will email you first.
